Sport is believed to play a valuable role in development by an increasing number of practitioners and agencies. Currently, a key issue in Sport for Development is the lack of evidence supporting its claims, which can be partially linked to the disconnection between initial programme and project outcomes and the ability to measure and achieve these outcomes.
This dissertation focused on the design of Sport for Development projects to enhance their effectiveness in achieving social change objectives, through a case study of projects operating within Southern Africa. Specifically, significant project elements and categories were identified and compared to theoretical frameworks, and project design approaches were examined for compatibility with the identified elements.
