Manual “Treino Social” – Transmitting life skills and social topics through football
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has tasked the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with implementing the ‘Sport for Development’ sector programme. This has been an important step towards establishing sport as an instrument to achieve development goals. In cooperation with civil society organisations, the German development cooperation implements different approaches on ‘sport for development’ in six pilot countries – among these is Brazil.
Jointly, the Brasilian NGO, Bola pra Frente, and GIZ on behalf of BMZ developed a workshop to educate coaches, social workers and teachers in transmitting life skills and social topics through football. With the "Treino Social" (“Social Training”) children and youth learn about gender equality, health, environmental protection or peace in a joyful and age-appropriate manner, without disregarding the development of technical football skills. Until today, about 130 coaches, social workers and teachers participated in the qualification workshops all over Brazil. To support the implementation of the methodology in the daily training and teaching routine and to spread its use widely, a free correspondent manual was published in Portuguese. Beside short introductions on the topics, the role of a trainer and age-appropriate football training, the manual offers entire training sessions focusing on a specific topic, social and technical skill as well as the attached teaching materials.
