Generation Amazing Festival 2020
Generation Amazing (GA) is the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) human and social legacy programme initiated during Qatar’s successful bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in 2010. Our unique football for development methodology is based on using the power of sport and in particular football to inspire and empower youth.
The Generation Amazing Festival 2020 will virtually bring together young people to promote football for good under the theme of ‘connectedness’. You will have a unique opportunity to engage in interesting conversations around football for development through a variety of workshops run by GA and partners.
The GA festival will always be an inclusive platform that aims to inspire the next generation of youth and introduce them to ways in which they can positively contribute to social change through sport in their communities.
sportanddev workshop: Sport and youth engagement in turbulent times
Time/date: Thursday 3 December at 2pm (GMT)
The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected sport for development programmes, and the ways in which young people can engage meaningfully and safely. There is an urgent need to share tools and resources that organisations can use to continue to positively impact young people during a time in which they are increasingly vulnerable and alone.
This workshop will bring together youth representatives to discuss how youth groups can stay connected through sport during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The workshop will be coordinated by the International Platform on Sport and Development (sportanddev) and will feature contributions from youth from the following networks:
- Commonwealth Youth Sport for Development and Peace Network (CYSDP)
- Foundation for Sport, Development and Peace (FSDP) Youth Network
- UNESCO Youth and Sport Task Force
The event will allow young people to share knowledge of challenges, opportunities, best practices, tools and resources in engaging young people through sport during the pandemic (and beyond). This will help to build capacity and empower young people to play a leading role in sport and development.
