2nd UN-IOC Forum on Sport, Peace and Development

The second edition of the International Forum on Sport, Peace and Development will take place at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) from 10 to 11 May 2011.

Date

05/10/2011 00:00

Location

Switzerland, Geneva|11.05.2011

Co-organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) , the event will offer the opportunity to review policies and practices harnessing the potential of sport as a humanitarian, social and reconciliation tool, to strengthen the cooperation between the different players in this field and to agree on future action.

The recommendations given during last year’s forum will be taken into consideration and will serve as a basis for discussions in this year’s edition of the event.

There will be a strong focus on the impact of sport contributing to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The eight goals have been set out in 2000 by the UN Member States as some of the world’s most pressing issues.

With an approaching deadline of 2015 they require the support of everyone.
