Beyond Sport: Monthly community chats

Monthly chat series to provide a space for our global network to share the challenges and the issues they are facing, as well as ideas that can stimulate new thinking and solutions.

Date

Thu, 04/09/2020 to Tue, 06/09/2020

In these uncertain times, a feeling of community can be a powerful stabiliser. You have been our - and each other’s - inspiration when we have needed it the most, so with people feeling alone and facing unprecedented challenges, we want to be proactive in continuing community, collaboration and support for our network.

Starting April 9, we will host a monthly chat series to provide a space for our global network to share the challenges and the issues they are facing, as well as ideas that can stimulate new thinking and solutions. We will be inviting funders, brands, NGOs, thought leaders, leagues, educational organisations and more to share, listen and learn as we navigate this time together.

Our first virtual chat will take place 9 April at 9AM EDT. Visit the Beyond Sport website to register.

Each chat will be themed around a specific issue, feature one to two speakers and be followed by a Q&A session. Some sessions will directly address issues organisations are facing in the wake of COVID-19, such as fundraising, adapting programmes to our current reality and continuity planning, while others will address the strategic and social issues sport can still play a role in solving.

APRIL FOCUS: How the sport sector is addressing the current landscape and adjusting to our new shared reality from a funder, NGO and brand perspective.

Come ready to chat! Whether you want to share your challenges, offer new approaches to the current situation, pose questions or just listen, the network is here for you. Chats are free and the audience runs the spectrum, so please bring your ideas, thoughts and questions so that we can navigate this time together.

To stimulate the conversation, joining us to provide additional expert guidance will be:

  • Adam Fraser, Chief Executive of Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. Founded under the Patronage of Nelson Mandela, Laureus Sport for Good makes grants to more than 200 programs in 40 countries around the world.
  • Nick Gates, Founder and Global Strategist for Coaches Across Continents, which works in 60 countries and specializes in sustainably building the capacity of organizations that use sport as an education tool.
  • Angela Woods, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship for ESPN, the division which informs the goals, policies and initiatives established to demonstrate business value, deliver social impact and support communities where ESPN and its fans live, work and play.

If these past weeks and months have shown us anything, it is that we truly are in this together. Please join us!

If these past weeks and months have shown us anything, it is that we truly are in this together. What we do affects our neighbours and what they do affects us. So please stay safe and take care of yourself and those close to you. And, we want to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
