Homeless World Cup 2008
At the 6th Homeless World Cup in Melbourne 1-7 December 2008, Federation Square, 56 nations will be united and players who are homeless will stand proud, represent their country and change their lives forever. A legacy of 30 football programmes will also be rolled out across the country by our partner The Big Issue in Australia.
Research consistently demonstrates that 77% of players experience a significant life change. They come off drugs and alcohol, move into homes, jobs, education, training, repair relationships, become coaches and players with semi-pro teams.
The Homeless World Cup has triggered and supports football programmes in over 60 nations engaging 30,000 players who are homeless and excluded in training all year round. It is supported by UEFA, Nike, UN, Manchester United, Ambassador Eric Cantona, and international footballers Didier Drogba, Rio Ferdinand.
Our mission is to use football to engage and energise one million players in 75 nations by 2012.
