Kick-Out Discrimination in Sports Virtual Hackathon

As part of UNITE 2030, L.A.C.E.S. and ID House are organising a virtual 'hackathon' to tackle issues of discrimination in sport.

UNITE 2030 is a global, virtual, 48-hour “hackathon” for positive social change. If you’ve never heard of a hackathon before, you’re not alone. A hackathon is a sprint-like event, in which people come together to work in teams for a short amount of time, in order to tackle a particular challenge.

At UNITE 2030 - Kick Out Discrimination, it is our aim to bring together 100 young people (ages 18-30) representing 70 different countries, to spend 48-hours virtually working together in teams to create a solution that answers the question, “What does it look like to promote inclusion at all levels of sport within my country/community?” During the weekend, participants will attend virtual workshops and receive help from expert mentors who help them bring their discrimination fighting solutions to life.

At the end of the two days, teams are required to submit what we call, an “Action Plan,” that lays out the groundwork for their solution to discrimination. UNITE 2030 then culminates with a pitching round, where groups will have the opportunity to present their solutions to representatives from Sports for Development Organisations, paving the way for potential partnership, ideas sharing, and further support for development of their solutions.
