Seven steps to measuring and communicating impact
As we know, it’s no longer good enough to just count the number of people that turn up to something. We need to be able to show what happened, and what changed as a result of what we did.
Increasingly, funders are looking for organisations that can demonstrate they have planned their work by clearly defining the change they can deliver and are able to demonstrate that they have a robust methodology for measuring and evidencing that change.
This has been reflected in the Government’s new strategy 'Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation', and is the way the world should be moving. National governing bodies, county sports partnerships and others need to make sure they can adapt to this changing landscape.
We are holding this special one-day seminar to help organisations to set clear objectives, measure those outcomes effectively and evidence their impact.
The day will include looking at:
Establishing outcomes at the centre of organisational planning
Measuring and evidencing progression
Exploring the role modern technology can play in gathering evidence
Communicating impact effectively
Developing sustainability and using the above to talk to funders
Andy Reed OBE, Chair of the Sports Think Tank, said:
“This is an exciting and challenging time for sport. Now, more than ever, we need to show the difference we make to our communities. Crucially, this evidence needs to include the wider benefits of sport and physical activity, not just increased participation. We know sport has a huge impact on the well-being of our society; we just need to prove it."
“This day will bring together a number of people who have had success in these areas and it should be of significant benefit to those who want to access public funding from 2017.”
Why are we doing this?
Over the last decade, the Football Foundation has worked hard at demonstrating and communicating impact, particularly utilising modern technology. Upshot has been a particular success, as it is designed to link all activities and evidence to outcomes and ‘take the pain out of collecting data’ by incorporating it into day-to-day operations.
At an affordable price of £25 - £50 and hosted at the famous Kia Oval Cricket Ground, this is a great opportunity to discuss the current challenges with like-minded organisations and pick up new ideas.
