Shaping Up: Pacific Research Symposium on Sport and Sustainable Development

The Pacific Research Symposium on Sport and Sustainable Development will take place on 19-22 June 2018 in Suva.

The Research Symposium will feature keynote addresses from international experts, roundtable sessions on contemporary challenges in Sport for Development and Peace, and concurrent sessions across the core themes of:

  • The Contribution of Sport to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Sport and Public Policy
  • Measuring the Impact of Sport on Society
  • Leaving no one behind in Sport, Physical Activity and Physical Education

This is one of the official events celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The University of the South Pacific and aims to ‘celebrate’ the contribution of sport to sustainable development and ‘shape the future’ of the research agenda underpinning sport, sustainable development and public policy globally and specifically in Pacific Island Countries and Territories.

  • Tuesday 19 June: Workshops on research design and methodology on ‘Sport & Economics’ and ‘Sport & Social Impact’
  • Wednesday 20 & Thursday 21 June: Two-day Research Symposium at the Faculty of Business and Economics Postgraduate Lecture Theatre followed by a closing cocktail function, hosted at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture & Pacific Studies
  • Friday 22 June: Regional Policy Forum hosted by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat on “Tackling Sustainable Development in the Pacific through Sport”, which is open to policy makers, policy advisors, development partners, and regional stakeholders from the Sport and Development sector
