Join SportWorks as they host Pedro Salazar to discuss how sports and social entrepreneurship can function well together.

When: 23 November, 4pm CET

There is an interesting intersection to explore between sports and social entrepreneurship. Our sports have enormous potential to contribute to the wellbeing of communities. The OlasPaz project in Colombia for example, is an initiative by Amigos del Mar Foundation to create solutions for the community in the island of Tierra Bomba by the city of Cartagena.

Born as a collaboration between the Foundation and Peace and Sport in 2018, the initiative aims at recycling used plastic from the island of Tierra Bomba, producing surfing and other water sports accessories. The profits generated through the sales then serve to benefit the community itself. From ocean clean ups to reintegrating children back to school following the pandemic, the project has gone from strength to strength.

Want to know more about the project? Then tune into our TALK with Pedro Salazar, President of Amigos del Mar, as he discusses the project, the Foundation, and how sports and social entrepreneurship can function well together. The TALK is part of our “Sport for Development” series, produced in partnership with Yunus Sports Hub and sportanddev.
