Webinar: Displaced children and youth and the role of sport during the COVID-19 pandemic

The UN Refugee Agency explores the situation for children and youth in the COVID-19 response and recovery phase.

Continuing a series of webinars on displacement and the Covid-19 pandemic, UNHCR the UN Refugee Agency, is exploring the situation for children and youth and the role of sport and sports organizations in the Covid response and through the recovery phase. The online consultation will take place on Wednesday 10 June, 13:30-15:00 (CEST) and is entitled "Displaced Children and youth and the role of sport during the Covid-19 Pandemic".

Ignacio Packer, Executive Director of International Council of Voluntary Agencies will open the meeting and share his personal experience on the role of sport in the current crisis. UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Operations Raouf Mazou will then give an overview on UNHCR’s response to the COVID-19 situation, followed by Amanda Melville (Senior Advisor Children and Youth, UNHCR) who will outline the implications of the current crisis on displaced children and youth, globally.

Following this scene setting we are pleased to introduce the following speakers: 

  • Ms. Jojo Ferris, Head, Olympic Refuge Foundation
  • Mr. Joshua Opolot, Executive Director, Youth Sport Uganda
  • Ms. Maria Bray, Global Advisor on Child Protection and MHPSS, Terre des hommes
  • Ms. Lea Hinnen, Project Manager, Football Club Social Alliance/ Scort Foundation
