Field of activity

‘Sport for development’ is a development policy tool for achieving objectives in the area of health promotion in addition to objectives related to violence prevention, education, gender equality and good governance. It focuses particularly on sports that are played widely and do not require expensive equipment. Football is particularly suited to reaching and mobilising large numbers of young people and therefore provides access to disadvantaged groups. Moreover, team sports can foster mutual understanding and strengthen social skills. 

Your role 
  • Planning and managing the implementation of measures in Senegal and other countries in the West Africa region, including planning and monitoring expenditure
  • Developing concepts and implementing Sport for development capacity development measures
  • Ensuring the quality of the implemented capacity development measures, including evaluation and further development
  • Supporting results-oriented monitoring, for example by gathering, evaluating, analysing and disseminating monitoring data on an ongoing basis and drawing up a detailed monitoring plan
  • Developing strategies, particularly in the context of value for money, financing and operating models, and scaling up
  • Public image and public relations work (‘communicating results’) and documenting and publishing the concepts developed for relevant specialist and corporate strategy processes and discussions
  • Advising the project manager on integral aspects of commission management, for example on expert inputs relating to accountability to the commissioning party and the preparation and implementation of (interim) evaluations 
Your profile 
  • A degree in the humanities or social, political or sports sciences
  • Substantial experience in implementing sport for development projects abroad, preferably in Africa
  • Knowledge of the methods, approaches, strategies, international discourse and stakeholders in the area of sport for development, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and pedagogy
  • Very good knowledge of GIZ procedures (commission management) and instruments (Capacity Works) and good knowledge of the development and use of capacity development methods (methodological skills)
  • Proven experience of cooperating with sports associations
  • Experience in dealing with political decision-makers (e.g. in ministries) and in consultation processes with ministries, the private sector, civil society and the sport sector
  • Communication and business acquisition skills and experience in project management
  • Excellent French, English and German language skills are essential
