Beyond Sport is looking for a Senior Grants & Programmes Manager, to handle the organisation's global operations and corporate and institutional grant giving programs. Deadline: 19 April 2022.

Role summary

 

The Senior Grants and Programmes Manager will have overarching responsibility for Beyond Sport’s global operations and corporate and institutional grant giving programs, which support people and organisations that are using sport as a tool for positive social change. They will manage the Programmes team and oversee all aspects of the grant-giving process - working with funders, grantees, and other strategic partners to do so. 

In recent years, Beyond Sport has significantly increased the quantity and value of grants. In 2018, Beyond Sport administered 8 grants of a total value of $360,000; in 2022 so far, we have confirmed over 40 grants valuing over $2.2 million, along with a range of capacity building support. Joining the team in this exciting period of growth, the Senior Grants and Programmes Manager will help shape and refine systems and processes of grant-giving as we continue to be a cutting-edge, outside-of-the box funder.  

Key responsibilities 

Programmes management

  • Project manage each Grant Programme throughout the life cycle of the grant: from application, selection, due diligence, approval, contracting, MEL, and reporting.
  • Developing (and supporting the development of) tailored funding applications for submission to institutional funders and trusts
  • Overseeing the relationship with institutional and corporate funders, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met successfully
  • Contributing to the design of program-specific MEL frameworks including applications and report forms
  • Coordinating grantee selection panels and judging sessions
  • Conducting detailed assessments of applications and manage a caseload of grants
  • Assisting in raising the standards of child protection within Beyond Sport’s portfolio
  • Providing good customer care to grantees, maintaining regular but appropriate contact and safeguarding their interests 
  • Oversee existing – and develop new - methods of assisting non-profits with capacity-building and pro-bono support
  • Work closely with the Communications and Development teams to package and share stories documenting the impact of our support
  • Assist the Development Team in creating new concepts for grant programmes to pitch to new and current funders
  • Liaising with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to ensure proper governance of UK and US Foundations and all respective grant programmes 

Team management

 

  • Line-manage relevant staff members in the Programmes team
  • Support the Executive Director in the creation and execution of event concepts where relevant
  • Oversee the team timesheet system, creating monthly reports and insights to the Executive Director
  • Develop and manage comprehensive and consistent operational budgets
  • Understand revenue streams for each project and strive to save on direct costs wherever possible
  • Manage freelance hiring and delivery for any operational roles, including Beyond Sport events where required 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a charity or foundation with focus on international development and working with grantees internationally
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience of submitting successful funding proposals to institutional donors and trusts and foundations
  • Strong track record of successful management of all reporting requirements associated with grants received from third parties
  • Significant experience in conducting due diligence into potential new grantees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem‐solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Preferred

 

  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish (or other languages including Portuguese and French) is preferred
  • Knowledge of the sport and development world and experience in speaking about it to a wider audience 
  • Experience of submitting successful funding proposals to institutional donors and trusts and foundations
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding best practices
  • Experience with grant management or application software, specifically Apply by Survey Monkey
  • Experience using CRMs including Zoho
