Business Development Manager - ICSSPE (Berlin)

The International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education seeks a Business Development Manager to contribute to the development of business and strategic plans. Deadline 15 April 2020.

With about 200 research institutions, non-governmental sport organisations and public authorities, the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) encourages cooperation between scientists, policy-makers and practitioners.

CSSPE‘s mission is

  • to integrate research to enhance physical activity and sport
  • to educate for improved quality of life and health for all people through physical activity and sport; and
  • to promote policies for active lifestyles, human performance and good governance in physical activity and sport.

In pursuance of its mission and strategic goals ICSSPE abides by the principles of Inclusion, Reliability, Cooperation and Equality. The legal seat and the Executive Office of the organisation are inside the Olympic Park of Berlin, Germany.

To support the global ICSSPE Network in its business development, the Executive Office is searching for a Business Development Manager (29,5h/week).

Job description:

  • In close cooperation with the Executive Board, the Development Committee and the Executive Director, the position holder contributes to the development of ICSSPE‘s business and strategic plans
  • Identification of demands and business opportunities in sport, sport science, physical education and physical activity
  • Design of new fields of operations, products and services including consultancies, events, and training
  • Licensing of ICSSPE’s products and services
  • Membership development
  • Part-time position (29,5h/week)
  • Workplace is the Executive Office
  • The Business Development Manager reports to the Executive Director


The salary is derived from remuneration level 12 for civil servants in Berlin.

Required qualifications

  • Master Degree in Sport Science with a focus on economy, business or management or a comparable degree
  • Excellent skills in market analysis and in creating new business development ideas
  • Experience in developing and implementing business strategies
  • Understanding of specific requirements in the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience in presenting sport, physical education and physical activity as promoters for sustainable quality of life
  • Excellent communications skills, verbally and in writing, in English and German
  • Responsive to the needs of other team members and supportive for the benefit of the overall performance of the team

It is foreseen that the successful applicant will begin the work on 1 July 2020.
