UNICEF has a long history of promoting every child’s right to play and has been a pioneer in using sport as a tool for development. It supports sport for development programmes and recognizes that new and innovative strategies are needed and harnessing the potential of sport to meet the needs of children around the world certainly meets the criteria. To maximize its outreach and impact, UNICEF in Belarus partners with powerful sport federations and clubs. In 2020 Sport for Development and Volunteer’s Engagement Section in Belarus is working on expanding the number of sport partners and new projects with them. All activities with the partners require support from UNICEF volunteers who are an integral part of this Section.

The intern will have the opportunity to learn how to develop and implement the Country Office Advocacy and Child Friendly Sports (CFS) model with a focus on resource mobilization. Particularly, he or she will be able to better understand the process of sport events preparation as well as volunteer engagement in that process, while building his/her managing and social skills. In addition, the incumbent will support the organization for communication with youth and volunteer engagement activities.

While the intern will learn about the Sport for Development strategies and processes, he/she will also pass on specific knowledge especially on the volunteer recruitment.

The duration of the internship is 3 months.The incumbent will be based in Minsk and be available for 2-3 full or 5 part time working days per week.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • National of Belarus
  • University degree or in the last year of university with a focus in Communications, International Relations, Public Relations, Social/Human/Language Sciences or other related fields
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions and political/cultural sensitivity and ability to work in international and multicultural environment
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form and to produce reports in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team in an international, multicultural and interdisciplinary environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization
  • Knowledge and skills in sport management
  • Excellent writing, research and analytical skills
  • Experience in sport related projects is an asset
  • Experience in sport volunteering activities is an asset
  • Fluency in English and Russian is essential, both writing and speaking; Belarussian is an asset
