Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES) Kenya is looking for an intern to be a coach. Deadline: 23 November 2020

Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES) is a youth-led, youth-managed and youth-owned organization that is designed to give young people leadership skills to manage and run their own sporting activities, events and competitions, and also take charge of their lives. The organization was formed in 2016 by Mr. Ondiek with a view of providing the youth from rural communities in Migori, especially young girls with a safe haven where they can play and also discuss issues that affect their lives. The program provides opportunities for young people from the rural communities to develop personal and social responsibility in sport participation, leadership, team building activities, and Sexual reproduction health services. YES provides the youth with opportunity to take an active part in leadership and development agenda of the society.

YES offers training to community volunteers interested in facilitating the program in their community settings. Since its inception, the organization has been working with the youth to promote and defend the plight of the youth in all aspects of life: social economic, academic and political. Currently the organization has its program in three sub counties namely Suna East, Uriri and Awendo constituencies.

To enhance its objectives of quality training and effective player development, YES Kenya is seeking a soccer coach intern to join our pool of technical professionals. The coach intern will be answerable to the Director of Training and Player Development and will work hand-in-hand with the head coach. The successful applicant should possess the following:

  • Professional certification in soccer coaching (preferably from bodies ratified by FIFA)
  • Knowledge of African soccer infrastructure,
  • Willingness to work in remote environments
  • Ability to work with young children (aged between 10 and 15)
  • Ability to integrate with the locals
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of Swahili would be good)
  • Ability to design and run soccer training sessions independently
  • Willingness to accompany the team during tours and friendly matches

YES Kenya will provide accommodation within the local communities. The organization will also pay the successful a stipend of $10 pm for the three months period.
