PeacePlayers International (PPI) is a global, non-profit organization that uses the sport of basketball as a vehicle to unite, educate, and inspire children in divided communities. Since its inception in 2001, PPI’s year-round, integrated youth basketball programs have reached more than 75,000 young people from around the globe. Informed by a decade of experience in diverse settings, PPI has developed a consistent methodology for using sport to empower young people to help their communities bridge divides and develop leaders.

Position description

PPI is looking for a leader who can execute fundraising strategies that produce long term impact and allow for continued organisational growth. The Associate Director of Development will support and manage PPI’s major gift, foundation, government and individual fundraising, while being responsible for grant writing and database administration. The Associate Director of Development position provides an individual with superior communication, writing and inter-personal skills an opportunity to serve as a key champion of PPI’s mission in the US and around the globe. The right candidate will have a track record of successfully reaching fundraising goals and developing new partnerships. The right candidate is a proven leader, one who has demonstrated the ability to work effectively across contexts, write well, manage multiple streams of work simultaneously and proactively prioritize. This individual will ideally work out of and be based in Washington DC, but the right candidate could also be based in New York, NY, as deemed appropriate by PPI’s Executive Director.  The candidate will report to PPI’s Head of Growth Strategy and Development.

Key responsibilities

  • Support and manage major gift, foundation, government, individual and corporate fundraising efforts
  • Work directly with PPI Executive Director and Head of Growth Strategy and Development to execute the organization’s resource development with an eye towards stakeholder engagement
  • Manage fundraising calendar, grant writing, database, and grass root fundraising campaigns
  • Support and help manage special-events and social media campaigns


Ideal candidate profile

  •  Bachelor’s Degree
  •  Five plus years’ experience in fundraising 
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing development teams
  • Experience identifying prospects, cultivating relationships, and driving processes to a close
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills
  • Experience with sport and conflict transformation a plus
  • Self-Starter 
  • A proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
