Are you interested in learning by teaching? Then volunteering at DUNK Grassroots would be a great opportunity for you.

“DUNK” which stands for Developing Unity, Nurturing Knowledge, is a youth-led, community-based organisation. Our mission is to provide/create safe spaces for children from 8 to 19 years old living in deprived communities to play, learn and grow. Through our programmes such as Sports, Academic Development and Personal Development, DUNK! empowers its members to succeed on and off the playground so they become agents of change in their respective communities.

We are currently running three programmes: Sports, Education and Vocational Training. We teach kids in these communities basketball skills and ethics. The idea is to use sports as bait to help these children prioritise their education.

Hence, there is no selection criteria for the basketball team but the basic requirements are: the child should be a resident in the community and a student, punctual at school, regularly visit the library, and must be or accept to be on good behaviour, serving as a role model in the community.

Single teenage mothers are also empowered through our Sew Your Future (SYF) programme where we teach these mothers sewing. They are required to bring their kids with them for a pre-kindergarten school at the library in the morning. Children in our sports programmes are also taught basic mathematics, English and science at the library and if they have assignments from school, our volunteer teachers help them.

If you are interested in any of our programmes, i.e. coaching basketball, teaching life skills, mathematics, English and science, child care at the kindergarten, etc., but need clarifications, contact the Project Manager at:
