The World Health Organization is looking for an External Relations Officer to support the sport and health partnerships for the organization. Deadline: 25 January 2022.

The mission of the External Relations Division (EXT) is to ensure a strong and supportive set of stakeholder relations for WHO and encompasses resource mobilization, governing bodies, communications and partnership functions. Within the division, the Health and Multilateral Partnerships Department (HMP)purpose is to facilitate that relevant external engagements are strategic, coherent, coordinated, transparent, risk-managed and in the interest of the entire Organization to implement GPW13, whether they are led by senior management, divisions, regions or HMP itself. HMP supports, coordinates, facilitate and/or leads concrete engagements and interactions with global and regional intergovernmental organizations, formal partnerships, parliamentarians and their organizations, NGOs/civil society and the private sector. HMP's functions are strategy development and policy coherence; health diplomacy and advocacy; selected external engagements and the incubation of strategic initiatives.

Description of duties

  • Support WHO's engagement and internal coordination concerning partnerships in the area of health and sport across the three levels of the Organization. Extend operational support to regional offices where required.
  • Ensure active partnerships are executed according to agreed-upon action plans and within established milestones. Linked to this, support the organization and coordination of governance mechanisms promoting interaction with existing and new potential partners.
  • Support senior EXT staff to develop new opportunities for engagement in the area of health and sport through synchronized and harmonized approaches across the three levels of the Organization.
  • Document the programmatic impact of the existing partnerships and produce high-level quality reports to document progress, results and impact, for internal and external dissemination.
  • Support the preparation of written outputs and other inputs for advocacy and knowledge management around health and sport.
  • Coordinate with WHO technical teams to facilitate the collection, evaluation and verification of information from diverse sources in order to respond or recommend actions to senior EXT staff and to external partners.
  • Represent WHO at internal coordination meetings, as well as networks and engagement fora.
  • Support the coordination of WHO's work in partnerships and collaborative arrangements.

Required qualifications

Education

  • Essential: First level university degree in international or public health, public relations, business administration, communications, social sciences, law, public health or related field.
  • Desirable: Professional certification or other specific training in external relations.

Experience

  • Essential: At least 5 years of experience in strategic coordination of high-level partnerships, development of strategies and external relations. Demonstrated experience in an international context such as experience with WHOor another organization of the UN system.
  • Desirable: Similar experience of support to senior leadership in a large organization. Experience in program coordination, particularly in the context of multilateral partnerships.

Remuneration 

 

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4271 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
