This section provides an overview of policymaking processes, the role of sport and development policy and the main actors involved.

Policy plays an essential role in sport and development. It can ensure sport gets recognition as a tool for development, open the doors to increased investment and support processes that lead to sport and development work becoming more successful.

However, it is often not fully understood, especially by people and organisations who do not work directly on policy. This section provides an overview of the topic. It will be especially useful to people with limited policy expertise, but it will also be relevant to experienced policymakers from other sectors who are working on sport and development policy for the first time.
