The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) published a video highlighting how one girl uses martial arts to stay away from drugs and crime in Rio de Janeiro as part of their #LineUpLiveUp global sport initiative.

Through its global initiative on sport #LineUpLiveUp, the UNODC's Doha Declarationraises awareness for gender equality and encourages teamwork and respect between girls and boys by integrating sustainable development goals and the rule of law. As part of their implementation of the Doha Declaration, the UNODC launched a Global Programme focusing on four inter-related components:

  • Resilient, reliable and transparent institutions: strengthening judicial integrity and preventing corruption in the justice system
  • Fair, humane and effective criminal justice systems: fostering the rehabilitation and social integration of prisoners to provide a second chance in life
  • Youth crime prevention: preventing youth crime through sports-based programmes and life skills training
  • Education for Justice: supporting the integration of crime prevention and the rule of law into all levels of education

To mark this week's International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day), we published a video about Camila - a teenager from Rio de Janeiro who has seen her friends getting involved in drugs and crime but decided to choose martial arts as her way to deal with challenges in daily life:
