Ahead of IDSDP 2021, the Commonwealth held its annual debate on sport and sustainable development.

The debate provided people from the 54 member countries with a timely opportunity to examine key issues affecting sport and physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A particular focus was on assessing the linkages between sport, physical activity and public health across the Commonwealth, and the impacts of increasing digitisation of the sport and physical activity sector on social policy development.

The debate featured two teams of experts who argued for and against whether an investment in technology is the key to re-building the sport sector post COVID-19.

Teams included Commonwealth government officials, sports personalities, academics, youth leaders and development experts.

The debate was held virtually for the first time due to COVID-19, allowing people from across the Commonwealth to join and contribute to the online discussion.
