The future of the world lies, in part, in the hands of the 1.1 billion girls worldwide.

But the United Nations has recognised their dreams and potential are often thwarted by discrimination, violence and lack of equal opportunities. So, 11 October has been declared International Day of the Girl Child.

In the Pacific, sports has been identified as a key to empower and develop girls and boys to cooperate and grow on a level playing field, while valuing inclusion and focusing on better health.

So come on a tour of Australian Aid's Pacific Sports Partnerships to see how girls can change the world through sport.

This story was produced by ABC International Development as part of the Pacific Sports Partnerships funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
