Gallery: Freestyling Tongan netballers do it their way
Despite being the most popular sport among women in Tonga, netball’s reach to the outer islands of the Pacific kingdom has traditionally been limited.
In this Australia Plus photo feature we explore how an expansion of the Pacific Sports Partnership-supported Tonga netball programme has engaged new communities in the country’s more remote corners. The story features the ‘freestyling’ representative netball team from the island group of Vava’u, whose eye-catching moves were on show at Tonga’s annual netball carnival.
