In 2016 the Cape-verdean Olympic Committee organised a project called VerdeOlympics, or 'Green Olympics' in English.

It has been done with the partnership of the international sport organisation Sportimpact, and made more than 6,000 people practice sports with recycled material, using sports to promote environmental defence.

We trained more than 200 young people in how to plan a sports event with zero budget, using recycled materials to not have excuses not to practice and empowered them to make their own decisions.

The project was chosen by the International Olympic Committee as an example for other Olympic Committees in the world.

Today we are still seeing the young people that we trained with other young people that they trained doing these types of activities and using values like gender equity. Different sports in one place and one shared value.

This is the proof that sport can be used to change minds and do better things for the world.
