This week on the Good Sports Podcast the team ran through some news items that had caught our eye in the last few weeks, then we interview Jordan Stephenson from Coaches Across Continents, and conclude with a quiz about the Beyond Sport Awards.

Sara picked up on a piece on Devex about the use of apps to incentivise exercise in an effort to tackle non-communicable diseases. Lee highlighted Generations for Peace’s nomination for a Beyond Sport Global Award, and highlighted their excellent work in Jordan. And here is the link from Dave’s item, the call to action by Street League CEO Matt Stephenson-Dodd for the sector to be more transparent in it’s evaluation and reporting.

Coaches Across Continents

Dave then spoke with Jordan from Coaches Across Continents. Jordan spoke about the different strands of the organisations’ work, including their development of metaphors in games, and their work in partnership with corporations. You can follow the work of Coaches across Continents through their twitter account, @coachesacross and follow Jordan on @jordstephenson.

Key takeaways from the team:

  • Sara noted that effective metaphors in sports can be powerful tools for learning, and highlighted Coaches Across Continents’ webinars which offer a great resource for coaches looking to design their own games
  • Lee reflected on their monitoring and evaluation approach, highlighting that rather than focusing on just the (incredible) number of people their work makes contact with, CAC were grappling with the challenges evaluating the impact of that work
