Incorporating gender to produce future-ready youth

On 8 March 2020, Inkwenkwezi Youth Development organised inter primary schools sporting activities at Mpeko primary school in Peddie, South Africa. The activities included: indigenous, mixed gender soccer and netball games.

The event was attended by five shools, namely: Tatshana, Mpeko, Masibambisane, Cwala and Gophe primary schools. The activities were centered around gender mainstreaming in pursuit of rural sport development.  The event took the form of panel discussions by gender activists, interactive, multi-stakeholder engagements, dialogues and sporting activities. 

Stakeholders present agreed that programming with no regard for gender issues would not yield positive results. Inkwenkwezi Youth Development Director, Zani Dayimani, reiterated that: "gender blind programming cannot produce future ready youth". The reference team on gender issues shared both the former and latter sentiments.

Furthermore, programme participants agreed to gender and development legacy programmes - to be headed by the gender reference team. Inkwenkwezi Youth Development sincerely thank its funder and partner - The SOL Foundation.
