Photographer Chris Cardoza shares images shot in collaboration with an organisation in Rwanda.

For the past five years I have been travelling to Rwanda and documenting the work of Shooting Touch - an international sport for development organisation. Shooting Touch uses basketball to educate and empower at-risk youth, women and their communities to live healthier lives.

Aside from my projects for sport and fitness brands in the United States, my personal work’s purpose is telling truthful stories through photography of people and communities overcoming societal disadvantages, conquering personal battles and challenging the status quo. I find the greatest example of this through sport, which has drawn me towards working with various organisations like Shooting Touch. My hope is that my images depict the emotion of the subject for even just a moment to help recognise that those emotions are the same in all of us no matter what language we speak, how our bodies may look or where we were born. My work with Shooting Touch in Rwanda has sparked a larger ongoing project of documenting sport for development organisations all around the world. I plan on making this my life’s work and am currently searching for organisations to collaborate with.

If you are a sport for development organisation interested in participating in this ongoing project please contact me via email, [email protected].
