Play the Game: Policy and Governance Analyst

Play the Game/Danish Institute for Sports Studies is recruiting a researcher with an academic background who can contribute to and expand our leadership role in the international debate on sports policy and governance. Deadline: 30 August

The Danish Institute for Sports Studies (www.idan.dk) is an independent research centre set up by the Danish Ministry of Culture to initiate and develop a broad range of social science research projects in the field of sports politics and stimulate public debate around key issues.

The institute is also responsible for running the international initiative Play the Game (www.playthegame.org) that promotes good governance, democracy, transparency, and freedom of expression in sport. Play the Game regularly engages in international projects focussing on good governance and related policy matters.

The role

As our sports policy and governance analyst your primary task will be to develop, manage, complete, and communicate research and analysis projects. You can expect to occasionally represent Play the Game as a speaker or participant at events at home and abroad.

Skills required

You will contribute to opening new avenues in the financing of Play the Game’s activities. Experience with fundraising in the EU, private foundations or similar will count in your favour.

You can document solid experience and strong competencies in quantitative research methods, and it is an advantage to have experience in indicator-based research. Moreover, you are capable of quickly establishing an overview over current sports political situations and turn your knowledge into analyses that can qualify the public debate.

Your spoken and written English is effortless and excellent, and your expertise goes hand in hand with an ability to communicate complex information to the wider public.

You have a flexible approach to completing your tasks, and you enjoy working independently as well as in teams. You deliver with high quality and on time, and you have flair for working in an environment with many political stakeholders.

Even if your primary affiliation is with Play the Game, your competencies will occasionally be required for other projects at the institute.

As our employee your main place of work will be our office in the heart of Aarhus, the capital of Western Denmark. You will be surrounded by 25 full and part-time skilful colleagues in an environment characterised by personal freedom, flexibility, and friendliness.

To become fully integrated into our team, we require that you are willing to learn Danish over time. Knowledge of other main languages than English is an advantage.

The first round of interviews will take place on Tuesday 7 September and the second round on Thursday 16 September 2021, both in Aarhus. If you are selected for interview and travel from abroad, we may reimburse your expenses upon agreement.

Your contract will be negotiated on the basis of Danish labour agreements. We intend to fill the position as soon as possible after 1 October 2021.
