Skateistan is looking for a Marketing Assistant to join our Communications team. This is a full time role (37 hours per week) and is based in our Berlin office. We work flexibly and will consider applications for remote work (within the CET timezone). 

The purpose of this role is to increase our unrestricted funding and to contribute to the Development team’s overall annual fundraising targets. The Marketing Assistant will support the communications and development team in the promotion of Skateistan. Working closely with the Senior Communications Officer and the Development Officer, the Marketing Assistant will be responsible for improving our fundraising, based on analyzing data from our communications activities (e.g. google ads). The Marketing Assistant will also take responsibility for many of our regular communications activities, such as social media scheduling and creating newsletters. This is a new role and is for a fixed term of one year.

Key responsibilities

Digital Marketing 

  • To take on our digital marketing strategy and refine it, based on evidence and best practice 
  • To build and schedule our digital marketing campaigns
  • To use the data from our digital marketing campaigns to inform better segmentation of our database and our fundraising activity 

Social media 

  • To work with the Senior Communications Officer on our social media strategy, providing insights and input into how we can continue to improve
  • To select and commission relevant assets for social media including some basic production (e.g. simple video editing)
  • To write copy for social media posts

Newsletters 

  • To provide input into the content and copy of our regular newsletters
  • To format and send our regular newsletters
  • To help to evolve our newsletter strategy, including better integration with social media and better segmentation of our audience lists 
  • To work with the Development Officer to maximise the impact of our fundraising newsletters to increase average gift donations and to grow the base of our regular donors
  • To increase the number of ‘Citizens of Skateistan’ - our community of regular donors
  • Contribute to creative direction and execution of our bi-annual fundraising campaigns

Digital Asset Management 

  • To monitor the content which comes in from our program sites, and ensure that the content ‘pipeline’ is working well
  • To assist program site staff with uploading content to the relevant platforms (Alfresco, Dropbox) 
  • Cataloguing archive content in our new system (Alfresco) 

Skills required:

Required experience and knowledge

  • Either a qualification in marketing or at least one year’s experience in a marketing role in a similar context
  • Experience of digital marketing, including Google Ads and social media advertising
  • In-depth experience of social media platforms with evidence of successful projects 
  • Non-profit experience, preferably within an international development context, is advantageous

Competencies 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Salesforce is an advantage 
  • Knowledge of basic photography and video editing software is useful 
  • Must thrive in a dynamic and fast moving work environment 
  • Motivated self-starter with an interest in organizational development
  • Experience with G-Suite
