The International Sports, Management & Business (ISMB) programme promotes learning and research in the field of sport for development. In particular, our Minor in Sport Development focuses on the power of sport as a tool for international development.

THE MINOR SPORT DEVELOPMENT LOOKS AT THE WORLD OF SPORT DEVELOPMENT ON A CONTINUUM OF SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT (ADDRESSING SOCIAL CHALLENGES THROUGH SPORT IN A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT) AND DEVELOPMENT OF SPORT (GETTING MORE PEOPLE TO PLAY MORE SPORT IN A NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT).

LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will gain insight into international Sport Development projects/programmes and theory. Students will also develop intercultural awareness and facilitation skills. In addition, at the end of this minor students have developed a better understanding of how to become a professional in the field of Sport Development.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE The minor is taught in English and runs once a year during our first semester, from September until the end of January. The minor consists of 30 ECTS (only theory- no internship). Subjects taught in this minor include:

PARTNERSHIPS AND FIELD EXPERIENCE Our minor is taught in collaboration with the International Sports Alliance, a sport for development agency in the Netherlands.  We also conduct a yearly fieldtrip in conjunction with the Out of Area Foundation to support sport for development programming in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
