Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA) is a community driven NGO whose aim is to integrate and align Sports into the development process. Through its programs BUSA combines sports and life skills training especially to social, economically under served and at risk children and youths.
Busa is found in underserved peri – urban areas of Lusaka (Bauleni, Chipapa, State Lodge, and Chifwema) and we work with boys and girls from 4 – 20 years and they play in over 500 league games/tournaments each year on weekends and public holidays.
Addressing Gender Injustices through Sport and Education is our goal, we then decided to form the organization with a belief of providing youth empowerment to children/youths at an early age to have good developed communities and their lives. After a survey we found differences in the overall numbers of boys and girls involved in sports and education. About two-thirds of all participants are boys/men and a third are girls/women. The disparities are greatest when it comes to volunteers (90% boys/men to 10% girls/women). There are also far fewer female coaches than male coaches (21% girls/women to 79% boys/men) in our working sites and that’s what we are working on to bring gender equality though sport and we use lessons like Exploring realities: Story, role play and reflection, Group work: Gender equity issues in the story, Plenary - Going deeper Exploring further ways to talk about equity, make addressing gender and safeguarding issues part of success measures of sport and education. We always believe that education and sport are vital to society’s moving forward.
