Football UNited 's Biography
Using the magic of Football to Create Chances for youth in Australia and Myanmar

Football United began in 2006 with a vision to assist recently arrived humanitarian refugee youth and families in their transition into Australian society. Using people’s love for Football we build opportunities for belonging, racial harmony and community cohesion.

Football United addresses settlement issues basing its foundations on the premise that structural variables and social processes act at multiple levels to impact on health and social behaviour. Football United programs offer children and youth the opportunity to engage in the sport they love, with opportunities to progress to roles of leadership and engagement that the organised football system cannot offer. Additionally Football United works in partnership with community service providers and educational institutions to facilitate community interactions which engage children, youth and adults.

Across the past ten years we have reached thousands of youth, creating opportunities from simply enabling them to enjoy the game they love, to creating pathways for them to develop their football, leadership and personal skills. Football United youth and staff have represented Australia at World Cups, at Commonwealth Government and United Nations meetings, and a number of other international platforms. Football United has been recognised by FIFA, has been awarded recognition by Australian Federal and New South Wales governments, by the Australian Human Rights Commission. Through the generosity of UNSW, university scholarships have been awarded to Football United youth, and through the generosity of many individuals and organisations Football United has been able to make significant, measurable positive impacts on youth in communities across Sydney, Canberra, South Australia and internationally. To date, many former youth from Football United’s early youth leadership programs are engaged in running community programs, coaching at various mainstream clubs, have continued in their studies and graduated from tertiary institutions, and some have started their own businesses.
