I currently am a senior coach with Promo Jeune Basket (PJB) in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. PJB is is a locally run grassroots organization focused on educating the youth of Goma through basketball. PJB runs daily basketball practices, basketball camps and clinics, provides basketball facilities and equipment throughout the city, and applies a life-skills approach to all of it's programming. Guided by the core values of discipline, hard work, team work, and respect, PJB believes that through basketball, the youth of Goma will lead their country into a safe and prosperous future.
Akshai is the founder of Project KHEL - a unique non-profit initiative in Lucknow, India that works with children from disadvantaged backgrounds - slum dwellers, rag pickers, children in shelter homes and children of domestic and migrant labour - using sports, 'play' and interactive methods to engage with children in order to arm them with 21st century life-skills, provide them with various educational and leadership development opportunities and also awareness on crucial issues - thus taking education beyond the classroom and into the play-spaces.
