I am a retired Infantry Major who served for 16 years in the British and Australian Army - a diverse and often challenging career that allowed me to lead teams around the world.
I see great power in the ability of sport to make a difference in the world. The positive impact of handing out pencils and balls in places like Afghanistan, the Solomon Islands and Kosovo taught me that sport can break down barriers, improve communication and ultimately change lives. I have been lucky enough to work with elite sports teams to develop their own sense of trust and improved communication and in 2013 conceived, planned and led an international charity rugby match in Australia that raised over £11000 for international military charities.
I remain passionate about the power of sport to educate and right many wrongs. however I'm become increasingly despondent about the corrosion of the values of sport.
