Irene Kamberidou
Dr. Irene Kamberidou , Professor of Sociology, teaches 'Principles of Sociology' (2003-2022), 'Gender Issues in Sport and Society' (2006-2022), and the graduate courses 'Degendering in Sport and Society' (2020-2022), 'Sport Sociology', 'Special Issues in Sport Sociology" (2010-2022) at the School of Physical Education and Sport Science (SPESS) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) where she also taught Olympism: A Sociological Perspective (2009-2011). Dr. Kamberidou established the first 'Gender Issues in Sport' course at SPESS in 2006, taught every semester to this day. She also prepared the first Gender & Sport chapter for Fylopedia e-encyclopedia of the NKUA's Gender Equality Center (www.uoa.gr). Dr. Kamberidou received her BA and MA from Emmanuel College and Boston College respectively, Boston, Massachusetts and her PhD from the Sociology Department of the Panteios University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, Greece. Her studies also include one year at the Sorbonne (Paris IV): junior year abroad program. Dr. Kamberidou is a member of the Executive Group of the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT), as well as a founding member of the ECWT. She is an honorary member of the Hellenic Professionals Informatics Society (HePIS), a member of the Hellenic Sociological Society (HSS), the Greek representative of the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) and a member of the Panhellenic Union for the Promotion of Women in Sports (PEPGAS). Dr. Kamberidou –with active participation at international and European conferences, including publications– has also contributed as a gender expert and moderator in many of the European Commission’s high-level conferences, meetings, projects and workshops addressing exclusionary practices ___________
