I grew up on a small farm in the Netherlands and started my international teaching career at the American School of Paris and the Washington International School. After pursuing graduate studies at both Springfield College and Smith College, I coached softball and taught briefly in the Physical Education Department at Oberlin College before becoming the Head of the Physical Education and Wellness Department at the American School of London. I am interested in the character and group building power of sports and empowering girls and women through physical activity. Social justice and sports anthropolgy are personal passions.
In the summers, I return to Europe to visit family and friends, and play or coach softball.
My involvement has been very limited to developing character through sport but I'm looking forward to becoming more engaged in sport for development.
