Kitso Masi

Kitso Masi
In his youth, Masi lost his parents and lived as a gang member. Through the intervention of his sister, Masi returned to school and now helps young people use their creative energy to fuel social change. A strong leader in the movement for an HIV-free generation in Botswana, Masi’s projects range from artistic exchange to character development to sports and reality TV.
As Program Director of the South East District Youth Empowerment League (SEDYEL), a youth-led sports and community development program , Masi uses sports to channel young peoples’ energy away from high-risk behaviors that lead to HIV/AIDS. Girls have traditionally been excluded from the Botswana national passion of football. In addition to playing football, the program creates a safe space for the girls and engages boys and girls alike in character-building activities.
