Identifying and empowering talented young soccer players in India's underprivileged slums

Magic Feet is a soccer project reaching out to economically deprived young people from the rural and urban slums of Bangalore.

With the success of many Olympians and international footballers representing India who have been produced from the most economically deprived areas, this has set expectations and created a need to scout for young talents. Magic Feet is a soccer programme reaching out rural and urban slums. The project invites all children and youth from the most economically deprived areas who are the treasure of Indian football.

Marking a new era for the underprivileged children and youth, the foundation hosted the first inter-area soccer tournament for the under 15 and under 17 boys, bringing the best footballers from different areas of the city, and creating a sporting environment which can better identify talents and professionalise football in all areas from coaching, management, organisation, communication, etc. The tournament provided them with opportunities to exhibit their skills, talents, and created a platform to play professional soccer.

Objectives:

  • To reach out and identify talents, empowering them with the right to play sports
  • Through the Magic Feet programme, get them back to school and help them complete their education
  • Best talents are inducted into the Magic Feet Football Club and trained to play professionally at the state, national and international levels
  • The project is exclusively for the underprivileged children and youth from 6 – 18 years of age
