Open call for applications: 2015 Sport for Women's Empowerment seminar

You are kindly invited to apply for participation in the 2015 Sport for Women’s Empowerment seminar in Berlin, Germany. The topic of the seminar will be addressing gender-based violence through football in the Middle East and North Africa. Application deadline: 23 February 2015

The seminar will take place from 7 April to 11 April 2015.

You should apply for participation if you are:

  • A women’s rights activist/advocate or professional from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region using sport to address issues related to women’s empowerment in general, with a focus on gender-based violence (GBV)
  • A women’s rights activist from the MENA region open to using sport as a tool to address women’s empowerment, gender and GBV in the future
  • A football coach, player or official from the MENA region who believes that football can be used as a tool to empower and develop the leadership of women as well as address women’s rights, with a focus on GBV
  • At least 18 years old, female and speak/understand English

During this collaborative workshop, we hope to:
  • Explore major issues and obstacles facing adolescent girls and women in the MENA region, with a focus on GBV
  • Discuss access to sport for women and the growth of football opportunities in the region
  • Share and reflect on tools and promising practices in addressing women’s empowerment and GBV using sport
  • Develop a first draft of a shared regional strategy to address women’s empowerment, with a focus on GBV, through football
