London, UK

The second annual London Sport Awards will be held on 19 January 2017 at indigo at The O2, celebrating outstanding achievements from groups or individuals that are helping to make London the most physically active city in the world.

Nominations for seven of the eight categories are now open. Nominations are invited from anyone - groups, individuals or organisations - making an impact on getting 1,000,000 Londoners more physically active by 2020. Nominations from previous London Sport Awards nominees and winners will be accepted. All shortlisted nominees will be invited to the London Sport Awards on 19 January 2017; each award will have a shortlist of at least three nominees.

Closing date for nominations is 00.00, Sunday 30 October 2016.

Most notable categories in sport and development include:

The Supporting Grassroots Organisations Award

Highlighting the work of those that have helped organisations have a wider, stronger impact on getting people active across London. It focuses on groups that have helped organisations - whether they are clubs, Governing Bodies, or community groups - to do more of what they do best, contributing to making London the most physically active city in the world.

When an organisation has opened up new opportunities to local clubs, found a way to support community organisations to get involved in physical activity and sport, or worked to reduce bureaucracy and red tape, they will have made a significant impact in supporting grassroots organisations. The Supporting Grassroots Organisations Award is there to acknowledge those organisations that help the rest of the sector to have a greater impact.

Volunteer of the Year

Celebrating the role of volunteers in supporting physical activity and sport in London. Volunteering is a vital part of grassroots sport, forming the foundation of clubs and organisations, and the success of major events throughout the capital. The Volunteer of the Year Award celebrates the importance of volunteers for physical activity and sport in London, and recognises the critical role that all volunteers play in getting Londoners more active.

Totally there are 8 categories, which in addition to the above include the following:

Coach of the year

The Making It Easier Award

The Resources Award

The Bigger and Better Workforce Award

The Harnesssing the Power of Elite Sport Award

Club of the Year
