UN Global Sports Programme's High-Level Roundtable

Join the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism for a discussion on how sport can be leveraged to foster resilience while accomplishing developmental goals and protecting major sport events as goods of humanity.

The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and its co-implementing partners, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) will hold a “High-Level Roundtable on the Security of Major Sporting Events and the Use of Sport’s values for Preventing Violent Extremism” on 27 March 2022 in Doha co-hosted by the State of Qatar on the margins of the Doha Forum.

Dignitaries, National Focal Points designated to represent Member States within the Programme and its overall Community of Experts and Practitioners including international organizations, sport federations and Civil Society Organizations’ representatives will connect to present and discuss the Programme’s achievements and how to best continue leveraging sport for fostering communities’ resilience while accomplishing developmental goals and protecting major sport events as goods of humanity.

The event will culminate with the presentation of a global awareness campaign for promoting the positive values of sport to foster communities’ resiliency to violent extremism and will be broadcasted by UN Web TV.

The Global Programme current basis of donors includes the State of Qatar, the People’s Republic of China through the UN Peace and Development Fund and the Republic of Korea.
