Trustee position - The True Athlete Project

The True Athlete Project is recruiting a team of five to seven UK-based trustees who are reliable, highly motivated and passionate about building a compassionate society through sport. Deadline 1 March 2019

About Us

The True Athlete Project (TAP) is a U.S nonprofit organisation formed of Olympic and Paralympic champions, coaches, mindfulness teachers, clinical and sport psychologists, and policymakers. We were recently recognised by the World Olympians’ Association for our innovative approach to sport for social change.

We believe in the power of sport to transform lives, but we are acutely aware that sport often fails to live up to its potential as a force for good. Our mindfulness-based programmes (targeting all levels of sport) aim to improve performance, nurture mental wellbeing, and cultivate a more compassionate society – all in one!

We are now establishing as a charity in the U.K, in order to capitalise on the superb foundation we have built over the past three years. We are in a position to grow our programming efforts internationally, including several U.K-based programmes beginning in 2019.

The benefits of joining the TAP Team

You will be part of a world-class team of like-minded sports professionals who believe in the transformative power of sport, and who are determined to make a meaningful difference. You will expand your network, form deep connections, be part of an emerging organisation built from the ground-up, develop your leadership skills, and have the chance to engage with a range of training opportunities.

With the recent successful completion of our first mentoring programme, the formation of a new Science Committee, and partnerships ranging from national federations to grassroots community centres, this couldn’t be a more exciting time to join the TAP Team and help us to deliver profound social impact.

The ideal candidate

We are seeking individuals with a strong passion for creating a better world through sport. We want to create a team with the skill to raise the profile of TAP in the U.K and to help TAP grow into an organisation that can deliver sustainable social impact. If you have skills in marketing, fundraising, business development, or human resource management, then we would love to hear from you. It is crucial that one or more of the successful candidates has experience of working within the startup environment in the U.K, and scaling small businesses. Ideally, you will have experience within either the sport-for-change, youth development, mental health, or performance sport landscapes.

The basic requirement of trustees is quarterly board meetings with additional project-specific work between meetings as necessary.
