NGOs and organisations using sport for development and peace (SDP) are often overreliant on unsustainable revenue streams, and this threatens the future of the sector. Evidence from the annual State of the Sector survey indicates that at least 50% of organisations rely on grants as their primary source of income. Twenty-five percent rely on a single donor for more than 50% of their income.
There is a clear need for NGOs and social entrepreneurs to focus attention and resources on diversifying revenue and building sustainable income streams. With the right approach and support, social business can provide a viable approach for sustaining and scaling the impact of organisations using SDP.
