Webinar: The cost of inaction on physical activity

When: 5 December, 3pm CET
This webinar will mark the publication of the first global estimates of the direct costs to the public health care system of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health conditions that could be prevented by physical activity.
Globally, countries will spend US$ 300 billion in direct costs due to NCDs and mental health conditions to the public health system, which is US$ 27 billion a year, if levels of physical inactivity remain in the current 27% among adults. This cost is avoidable if countries implement interventions that promote physical activity as described in the WHO’s Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030 (GAPPA).
The webinar will bring together key experts from the WHO, noncommunicable diseases representative groups and academia to discuss the methods used to estimate the cost of inaction on physical inactivity, the implication of the findings to global health advocacy and policies, and what needs to be done to accelerate progress.
