Reporting to the Executive Director and consistent with the mission of Girls on the Run, the Development Director will be responsible for developing the organizations fund development strategy, overseeing the day-to-day development operations and helping GOTR NYC achieve its fundraising goals through revenue-generation, relationship building, stewardship, strategy and implementation.

Girls on the Run NYC is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Our program creates a safe place for girls to grow in confidence and strengthen their self-worth through an introduction to identifying and processing emotions, goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director and consistent with the mission of Girls on the Run, the Development Director will be responsible for developing the organizations fund development strategy, overseeing the day-to-day development operations and helping GOTR NYC achieve its fundraising goals through revenue-generation, relationship building, stewardship, strategy and implementation. 

 

Principle responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

Organizational Strategy

  • Work in partnership with Executive Director and Board to build the annual fundraising plan in order to implement sustainable revenue generation to exceed $1 million annual budget
  • Support the creation of development department goals to support short and long-term philanthropic objectives
  • Drive and develop strategies to identify, cultivate and steward donors to increase and diversify philanthropic revenue sources

 

Fund Development and Development Operations

  • Work in partnership with the Executive Director and program staff in grants management, including vetting RFPs, generating grant proposals, tracking grant status, outcome reporting and funder relations
  • Research and apply for appropriate local, state and national grants
  • Maintain year-round grants calendar including potential new funding opportunities
  • Work with the Executive Director to steward Board engagement in fundraising
  • Create, implement and manage individual giving campaigns, including the year-end annual appeal
  • Utilize Pinwheel CRM software to maintain gift records and donor, funder and volunteer data as well as develop and implement database best practices
  • Oversee development operations and manage part-time, seasonal development staff
  • Develop and implement acknowledgment process for all gifts and funder awards
  • Work with operations staff in financial reconciliation and develop continuous improvements as needed in all facets of our development operations

 

Peer-to-Peer Charity Athlete Program and Special Events

  • Lead and manage year-round peer-to-peer individual fundraising program, including SoleMates charity athlete program and engage over 100 charity athletes per year
  • Work with the volunteer committee in event planning and SoleMates programming, engagement and communications
  • Oversee fundraising special events, including annual benefit and event fundraisers hosted by external parties
  • Provide program support as needed, including participating in GOTR coach training, program sessions and/or site visits and support end of season 5K

 

Donor Relations and Portfolio Management

  • Create and manage donor portfolios, including mid-level donors, major gifts, and prospective donors
  • Manage monthly giving donor program portfolio and develop plans to grow portfolio
  • Implement organization’s stewardship plan for all donors, foundations and corporations
  • Plan, collect and craft impact stories and testimonials

 

Corporate Sponsorship and Partners

  • In partnership with the Executive Director, create and execute creative outreach strategies with corporations to steward existing relationships and secure new sponsorships
  • Recruit and maintain relationships with in-kind donors

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of equivalent work experience required.
  • 5 years (preferred) or more of nonprofit experience, including experience in fundraising.
  • Track record of success securing funding from individual donors, peer-to-peer fundraisers, corporations and/or public grants including: identifying new targets, building and maintaining relationships and writing and presenting partnership proposals.
  • Excellent project coordination, communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and leverage those relationships to cultivate additional opportunities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture.
  • Ability to work well in a small office setting, function as a team player and work independently to meet deadlines on assigned duties.
  • Adaptable and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Computer competence including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel), Google Suite, and database management knowledge.
  • Willing to undergo a background check.
  • Comfortable in a hybrid work remote / in-person work environment
  • Ability to travel within the five boroughs of New York City on public transportation.
  • Must be available to work some hours during some weekends and evenings, including for organizational events such as volunteer and fundraising events.
  • Per NYC government policy, you must show proof that you have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Benefits, Salary and Work Environment

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 annually. In addition, Girls on the Run offers a benefits package including professional development funds; retirement plan with employer match; medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; and 12 paid holidays plus 20 days of paid time off annually.
