NCIF takes a collaborative approach to grant making by partnering with Nike employees to directly impact their local communities. The employee-led, neighborhood-focused initiative engages a volunteer committee of Nike “teammates” from its stores, offices, logistics centers and Air Manufacturing and Innovation to assess the grant applications. Each member of the volunteer committee then shares their local insights and plays a key role in deciding on the recipients.
75% of the grants will support projects that promote sport or physical activity in the community. 25% will support organizations and projects that address community challenges through innovative or proven community-based solutions. Awards typically range from $5,000 to $25,000.
As part of its Made to Play initiative, Nike’s goal is to help local organizations bring the benefits of sport to their communities, giving kids an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of quality play and active lives. Ultimately, its intention is to help create stronger communities where sports and physical activity are a highly valued part of everyday life.
Submissions will be accepted through February 15, 2024 in Japan and North America, and through March 2024 in Europe. Organizations will be notified by the end of May and grants will be distributed in the summer.
