About this event
The International Platform on Sport and Development (sportanddev) is excited to host the first of a series of Symposia by the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and its African network of researchers, supported by the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Symposium will address the topic of “Building Bridges through Sport and Development Policy Country Mapping”, aligning with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) on 6 April and the 2026 theme: Sport: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers.
The Sport Policy Mapping Research Programme, coordinated by the UNESCO Chair for Sport, Development and Peace and the Olympic Studies and Research Action Group (OSC) at UWC, has established a Network of sport and development researchers in various African countries to develop and record a sport and development profile of each country in the form of a comprehensive publication to be launched.
The event will share the first ten Country profiles identifying key policies, resources, and networks, as well as gaps and opportunities. The Symposium will feature keynote addresses by our partners as well as the country researcher coordinators. It is free and open access for all to attend.
