Beyond Sport the stage for groundbreaking child protection pledge

Beyond Sport will be adding a new child protection pledge to the entry process for the Beyond Sport Awards in 2012, ensuring that any entrants to the process will either have or must implement a child protection process.
Child protection
During this year’s Summit, a workshop and discussion roundtable will drive interest and activity around the child protection pledge, with the measures highlighted in a dedicated Beyond Sport Effect area throughout the event.
Global support
SportAccord, the Lausanne-based umbrella organisation of international sports federations and sports related organisations, will support the process through its strategic alliance with Beyond Sport, ensuring that child protection becomes an integral part of any sporting activity from grassroots to elite level. The influential organisation will promote the pledge to its 105 members, which include 90 international federations.
Partnering with organisations to commit to the pledge
Other measures taken by the organisations committing to the pledge include streetfootballworld providing training in child protection through an online webinar, offering guidance and support in the development of child protection policies, with Spirit of Soccer and CEOP also playing crucial roles in the implementation of the pledge.
Children protected throughout global sport
Nick Keller, the Founder of Beyond Sport, said: “As an organisation that promotes sport as a tool for social development, we are incredibly proud to have contributed to such a groundbreaking pledge that has the potential to dramatically change the way children are protected throughout global sport.”
The Summit, the largest and most influential global gathering in the field of sport and development, is being staged in Africa for the first time, with Cape Town following in the footsteps of London and Chicago as the venue for the unique event from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th December.
