International Sports Groundbreakers Challenge
The challenge is reported to be one of the largest open innovation projects in the Asia Pacific region. The challenge aims to find solutions to real business challenges being faced by sport organisations around the areas of fan engagement, smart venues, athlete performance, sustainability, sport for good, media, sponsorship, fitness and wellness, and e-sports.
20 organisations were involved in contributing to the 35 problem statements of the inaugural International Sports Groundbreakers Challenge. The statements cover various sports including football, cricket, MMA, cycling and swimming.
The challenge is offering an SDG$15,000, sponsored by SportSG, prize for up to ten winning participants who are either Singapore-based or are willing to relocate to the city. Winners will also get support from Microsoft, mentoring and PR and marketing opportunities and the chance to pilot their solutions.
Participation requirements
- Be a legally created company, or part of a research group in a university, from any part of the world
- Have a dedicated full-time team to work on the proposed solution(s)
- Have previous experience in building innovative and technology based solutions
- The individuals working on the proposal must be of legal age in their respective jurisdictions. At the time when proposals are submitted, they must not be employees of SportSG
- The participants can apply to solve up to three problem statements for this challenge
Entrants from around the world are invited to propose technological solutions by 23 January 2023. The winners of the first challenge will be announced in April 2023.
